Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies’ Members to Take Oath Today

Quetta/Peshawar: Plenary sessions of newly-elected assemblies of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be held on Wednesday in which members will take oath, local media reported on Wednesday.

The session of Balochistan Assembly will be presided over by Zamrak Khan Achakzai as the speaker of the House is out of the city.  The provincial assembly of Balochistan consists 65 seats. Of them, 51 are general seats, 11 seats are reserved for women and 3 seats are reserved for minorities.

In the Feb 8 polls, the JUI-F and the PPP won 11 seats apiece, while the PML-N secured 10 seats and the BAP took four seats in the provincial assembly.

Meanwhile, the session of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly will start at 11 am. After the oath taking, the process to elect new speaker of the House will begin. Nomination papers for the offices of speaker and deputy speaker of the provincial assembly can be filed till 5 pm.

The 145-member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly comprises of 115 general seats. There are twenty-six seats reserved for women and 8 for minorities.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) backed candidates won around 86 seats, the JUI-F bagged 7 seats, the PML-N 5, the PPP 4, the PTI-Parliamentary 2 and the ANP 1 in the general elections on February 8.
