RAWALPINDI: Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and invited Pakistan to bat first in the opening day of the first Test Wednesday following a delayed start due to a wet outfield.

The two umpires — Adrian Holdstock of South Africa and Richard Kettleborough of England made four inspections of the ground but found wet patches because of overnight rain, deemed risky for play.

Pakistani side entered the Test with 4 fast bowlers in all-pace attack with no frontline spinner while Bangladesh included two spinners and three pacers. The two-match series is part of the nine-team World Test championship with Pakistan presently sixth in the standings and Bangladesh 8th.

The second Test match will also be played at the same venue from August 30.
