Bangladesh Journalists’ Unions Protest Brutal Killing of Journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim

DHAKA: The Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) organized a protest rally in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka to strongly condemn the heinous killing of journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim in Jamalpur. The leaders of BFUJ and DUJ demanded swift and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators to put an end to such targeted violence against journalists.

Presided over by BFUJ President Omar Faruque, the rally saw the participation of prominent journalist and former BFUJ President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul as the chief guest. The event also featured speeches from National Press Club President Farida Yasmin, BFUJ Secretary General Dip Azad, DUJ General Secretary Akter Hossain, and other journalist leaders.

The protest rally called for the arrest and prosecution of the killers of Golam Rabbani Nadim within the shortest possible time, emphasizing the urgency of bringing them to justice. The attendees expressed satisfaction over the arrest of Sadhurpara UP chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu, the suspected mastermind behind the journalist’s killing. Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul urged the central leaders of the Awami League party to permanently dismiss Babu from the party as a stern measure.

Bangladesh Journalists Demand Justice

BFUJ President Omar Faruque criticized the prolonged delay in delivering justice to the families of slain journalists, including Manik Saha, Humayun Kabir Balu, Dipankar Chakraborty, and Gautam Das, who were brutally killed since 2001. He emphasized the need for prompt action to ensure justice and prevent further deprivation of justice for the journalist community.

NPC President Farida Yasmin expressed gratitude to BFUJ and DUJ for organizing the protest rally and called upon the government to swiftly address the demands of the bereaved family and provide them with justice.

During the rally, BFUJ Secretary General Dip Azad announced a series of programs that would be organized if their demands were not met, underscoring their determination to seek justice for Golam Rabbani Nadim. The leaders also urged the organizations that Nadim had worked for to support and stand by the side of his grieving family.
