RAWALPINDI: Bangladesh have whitewashed Pakistan by winning the second test match by 6 wickets in a historic 2-0 series victory, away from home. The hosts on Tuesday were hoping to avoid a whitewash as the visitors look set to secure their first-ever Test series success over Pakistan winning the 2nd Test being played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The visitors continued their innings from 42-0 on the fifth day today after the rain ended the play early on Monday and eventually chased down Pakistan’s second innings’ 185-run target to secure their first-ever Test series win over Pakistan.
With openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam providing a strong start, Bangladesh never permitted the Shan Masood-led side to come back into the 2nd test match with experienced Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan completing the run chase in the successful run chase in just 56 overs.
With today’s loss, the hosts have now lost five straight Tests – three against Australia and two against Bangladesh — in the current World Test Championship. During their chase, Islam and Hasan fell to Khurram Shahzad and Mir Hamza, respectively. However, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque provided much-needed partnership to the visitors. However, Shanto was dismissed by Salman, whereas Abrar Ahmed dismissed Haque.
A day earlier, the guests bowled out Pakistan for 172 after Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana wreaked havoc, claiming five and four wickets, respectively. Pakistan started the day on 9/2 and had a decent start courtesy of Saim Ayub and Shan Masood, adding 38 runs. Ayub was the first player to depart as Taskin Ahmed claimed his wicket. He made just 20 runs off 35 balls. Rizwan made 43 runs off 73 balls while Abrar Ahmed departed after facing just 12 balls for his two. Mahmud dismissed Mir Hamza to ended Pakistan’s innings on 172. Salman contributed vital runs for Pakistan and remained unbeaten on 47. Mahmud had registered his first fifer in Test cricket, becoming the first Bangladesh bowler to take many wickets in an innings in Pakistan.
Before that, replying to Pakistan’s first innings 274, the visitors were reduced to 26-6 and in danger of following on amid fiery fast bowling in the morning but Litton Das hit a defiant 138 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz made 78 runs as Bangladesh recovered from a precarious position to post 262 all out following Shahzad collected six wickets on the third day of the second test in Rawalpindi.
