WASHINGTON, USA: Former US President Barack Obama has announced his endorsement of Kamala Harris in her campaign for the 2024 presidential election. On social media platform X, Obama shared that he and his wife, Michelle, had reached out to Harris to offer their full support.

“Michelle and I gave our friend Kamala Harris a call earlier this week. We told her that we fully support her and believe she would be an excellent president of the United States,” Obama said.

This endorsement from Obama, a prominent figure in the Democratic Party, is expected to significantly boost Harris’ campaign. His support indicates strong confidence in Harris’ leadership abilities, which is likely to influence voters who admire Obama. As Harris moves forward with her presidential campaign, Obama’s endorsement could provide her with vital momentum and credibility.

Obama’s team has been closely coordinating with Harris’s campaign, and he believes she has made a strong start. An adviser noted that Obama’s approach mirrors his strategy during the 2020 Democratic primary, aiming to unify the party once a nominee is chosen. His statement on Biden’s decision to step down was designed to keep the focus on Biden while still showing support.

During Biden’s reelection campaign, Obama actively participated by attending fundraisers and engaging in conversations to rally financial support. As the Democratic Party moves quickly to nominate Harris, the rules for the nomination process were adopted on Wednesday, with official voting set to begin on August 1.

Voting on the party platform and ceremonial ballots for president and vice president will be held during the Democratic convention, which is set to take place in Chicago from August 19 to 22. Harris hasn’t decided who she will run with yet.
