NEW YORK: Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie’s cinematic collaboration, “Barbie,” has emerged as a frontrunner in the 80th Golden Globe Awards, surpassing Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” with an impressive nine nominations.
The competition between Warner Bros.’ “Barbie” and Universal’s “Oppenheimer” has evolved from a box office showdown to a heated awards rivalry.
“Barbie” secured nominations across multiple categories, leading with nine nods compared to “Oppenheimer’s” eight. Notably, the film received an unprecedented three nominations in the Best Original Song category, showcasing its versatility. The nominations for “Barbie” also include Best Musical/Comedy, recognition for the three lead actors, screenplay, director, and the newly introduced Cinematic Achievement category.
Ryan Gosling, the lead in “Barbie,” earned his sixth Golden Globe nomination, adding to his previous five nods, which encompassed films such as “La La Land” (Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy), where he secured a Globe win, and notable roles in films like “The Ides of March,” “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” “Blue Valentine,” and “Lars and the Real Girl.”
