BEIJING: China has asked Israel to stop military operation in Rafah ‘immediately,’ western media reported on Tuesday. According to AFP, Beijing urged Israel to stop military operation in Rafah city of Gaza. Jordan’s King Abdullah II also appealed for a full truce to end the war in the Gaza Strip after talks with US President Joe Biden, striking a disagreeing note with Biden who is seeking a pause.
President Biden said civilians in the southern city of Rafah must be protected while the Jordan warned against any offensive at all.
Earlier, Pakistan strongly condemned Israel’s military aggression against Rafah city in Gaza and the resulting destruction and massacre of the Palestinian people.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office, in a press release, stated that Israel’s offensive in Rafah violates the provisional measures indicated by the International Court of Justice to protect the people of Gaza from genocide. “It will further aggravate the humanitarian disaster witnessed in Gaza over the last four months and jeopardize the ongoing efforts for a potential ceasefire,” the press release added.
Pakistan urged the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to take urgent measures to bring an immediate end to Israeli aggression and its incessant crimes against humanity.
Israel’s Deadly Offensive in Gaza
On October 7, Israel launched a deadly offensive on Gaza that killed more than 28,064 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 67,611 following a surprise attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.
The Israeli offensive has left 85 percent of Gaza’s population internally displaced amid acute shortages of clean water, food, and medicine, while 60 percent of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.
