BEIJING: China has congratulated Pakistan for holding general elections of the national and provincial assemblies in a steady and smooth manner, expressed hope all political parties in Pakistan could work together to form a new government after the elections.
This was stated by Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning during her regular briefing. She said that general elections in Pakistan were conducted in a generally steady and smooth way. She said that as a close and friendly neighbour, China completely respects the choices of people of Pakistan and sincerely hopes that relevant parties in the country will work together to uphold the political solidarity and social stability after the polls.

The spokesperson maintained that Pakistan and China were all-weather strategic cooperative partners and China expressed hope to work with Pakistan to build on the traditional friendship, deepen cooperation in various fields and accelerate the building of an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era for the benefit of the peoples of the two nations.
In response to a question, she said that Beijing noted that the Pakistan election was generally steady and smooth and China fully respected the choice of Pakistanis.
The general elections of the national assembly and the provincial assemblies were conducted in Pakistan on February 8. After the announcement of the results, the political parties are now working on forming a government in the South Asian country.
