MINSK: Belarus is offering to resolve all issues with Poland and Lithuania, yet the country has not seen any reciprocal steps, said Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko at a ceremony on Tuesday.

The ceremony was held to honor graduates of higher military educational institutions and senior officers at the Palace of Independence on 16 July.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also touched upon the recent situation on the border with Ukraine over the military buildup. “We had to make certain promises to people and respond. Everyone involved in that effort is to be commended. I’m very grateful to them. But opening fire is an extreme method,” he added.

Belarusian leader emphasized that his country always finds ways to negotiate. He added Minsk used diplomatic language to resolve disputes with neighbors.

“We want no war. We will go to war only when someone comes to our land with the sword. We will do our best to use only diplomatic means to settle disputes, primarily with our neighbors,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

He said Belarus offered to settle disputes with Poland and Lithuania, however, there was no reciprocity from the other side. “We have to keep our ears open and keep our powder dry in the northwestern and western directions,” He added.

Earlier, Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhenkov told the media that his country had invited Poland to jointly study the situation on the border.  He added that the Belarusian head of state has recently offered the Polish side to send to Belarus any Polish delegation, to take a joint look at the situation on the border.
