ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Belarus to Pakistan, Andrei N. Metelitsa on Wednesday expressed gratitude to Pakistan for hosting the successful Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting, calling it a significant development between SCO member states.
Talking to state media, the ambassador said Pakistan and Belarus have long-standing ties within the SCO, with economic and trade relations spanning several decades. He noted as major players in the SCO, both countries are driving economic integration among member states.
He said that a delegation led by the Prime Minister of Belarus, Roman Golovchenko took part in the SCO in Pakistan and a discussion was held on the sideline of the SCO to enhance bilateral economic relations between the two sides.
The Belarusian envoy said Belarus and Pakistan will continue to promote such forums in the future because of their strong role in bilateral economic and trade ties and connectivity between the SCO member states.
He added the SCO member countries should take advantage of connectivity potential and overcome the challenges and difficulties in trade and investment.
The envoy said that the Prime Minister of Belarus, Roman Golovchenko, held a bilateral discussion with his Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG).
He said that both leaders agreed on strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially in the areas of trade, agricultural machinery, investment and joint production of tractors and connectivity.
He added that PM Golovchenko warmly congratulated Pakistan on the successful conduct of the SCO CHG meeting and its positive outcomes. He thanked Pakistan for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and his delegation during the conference.
