Camp David: US President Joe Biden has expressed the hope to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the end of this year, reported Western media on Friday.

Biden and Xi first met in November 2022 in Bali, Indonesia, where they decided to work closely to lessen tensions between the world’s two largest economies.

After meeting the leaders of Japan and South Korea, Biden said he expects and hopes to follow up his conversation in Bali this fall.

Biden is expected to invite Xi in November to San Francisco at the summit of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum hosted by the US.

There is a possibility that two leaders could also meet on the sidelines of G20 summit in New Delhi, India.

Biden has recently restricted US investment in sensitive high-tech areas in China, a move strongly denounced by China.  It said such a decision was against the free-trade principles. The Biden administration on the other hand said would safeguard US security.

China has also deplored the summit between Biden and the leaders of South Korea and Japan, a major step in reconciliation between the two US allies.

At the conclusion of the conference in Camp David the three countries agreed to hold regular meetings with top leaders and a new communication channel.

The three countries agreed to enhance security cooperation among them.

According to the joint statement, they would set up an early warning system to coordinate on possible disruptions to global supply chains.
