PESHAWAR: With electioneering gaining momentum in Pakistan, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has criticized former allies again, saying that those who touted themselves as defenders of the vote’s sanctity have instead become the country’s “Mehengai [inflation] League.
Speaking at a workers’ convention in Peshawar, Bilawal took a veiled swipe at Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), accusing them of lacking respect for the public’s vote and incompetence in governance.
Taking a swipe at PML-N, Bilawal said that he and his party was ready to contest the upcoming general polls on his performance as foreign minister of Pakistan in the coalition government of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), but Mehngai League’ unwilling to go into public on its 16-month performance.

Nawaz, who recently returned from a self-imposed exile, faces legal uncertainties regarding his eligibility for elections due to a prior disqualification from public office.
Bilawal has repeatedly criticized the PML-N in the lead-up to the February 8 elections, advocating for a shift towards “new politics” in the country.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized that their struggle is not against any specific political party but aimed at addressing poverty, inflation, and unemployment.
He reiterated his commitment to working for the welfare of the people and the modernization of Pakistan, envisioning a powerful nation. Pointing out that 70% of the population is under 30 years old, Bilawal urged elderly politicians to step aside and make room for the younger generation.
He also appealed to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and party workers to unite, emphasizing that overcoming differences would make them unbeatable.
