Billion Tree Plus Plantation Campaign Launched to Combat Climate Change in Northwest Pakistan

PESHAWAR: The Billion Tree Plus campaign has been launched in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to combat climate change and mitigate its negative effects. Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mehsud has inaugurated the campaign by planting a sapling during a ceremony at the Commissioner’s House in Peshawar.

Speaking on the event, he added the saplings planted under the Billion Tree Plus campaign will not only enhance the beauty of the city but also contribute to a better atmosphere in the future.  Under the campaign, more than 750,000 saplings will be planted in Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda, Mohmand Tribal District, and Khyber District during the current monsoon season.

As per media reports, special teams comprising Deputy Commissioners and District Forest Officers have been set up for this purpose to make the effort fruitful.  Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud emphasized the need for planting more trees in order to effectively meet the pressing challenge of climate change.
