BIRMINGHAM: Birmingham Airport, one of the UK’s busiest travel hubs, has cancelled all flights and evacuated the premises after reports of a suspicious vehicle, police and the airport said on Wednesday.
West Midlands Police said that they are dealing with an ongoing incident on-site, and passengers have been asked to stay away from the airport until further notice.
“Airport operations are currently impacted, and passengers should not come to the airport at this time,” the police stated in a message on X (formerly Twitter). The airport, which saw 11.5 million passengers last year, has suspended all operations.
The alert has caused widespread disruption, with passengers being prevented from disembarking planes, and road access to the airport being completely shut off.

According to local media reports, drivers are being turned away, and all transport links to the airport, including public transport, have been halted.
West Midlands Police officers are managing the situation and rerouting traffic away from the airport, located in Solihull, central England. “We are dealing with a suspicious car,” police confirmed, but provided no further details on the nature of the threat.
Passengers due to fly from the airport have been advised to check with their airlines for updates. Birmingham Airport has urged all travelers to stay away for the time being as authorities work to resolve the situation.
