ISTANBUL: An explosion on a busy pedestrian street in central Istanbul city of Turkey has killed at least five people and critically injured at least another 11 people, Turkish media reported on Sunday.
People ran away following the blast on Istiklal Avenue in the Taksim Square area.
Turkey’s State broadcaster TRT showed videos of ambulances and police headed to the scene.
A video posted online showed flames erupting and a loud bang.
The cause of the explosion was not clear. Social media users said shops were shuttered and the avenue closed down.
