WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to weaken prospects for a Palestinian state, AFP reported on Thursday.

Antony Blinken “discussed the need to uphold the promises made at regional meetings in Sharm el-Sheikh and Aqaba to avoid steps that weaken the prospects for a two-state solution,” the spokesperson said.

Speaking alongside the US Secretary of State Blinken on Thursday, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said that normalization “is in the interest of the region” and would “bring significant benefits to all.” He said, “We believe that normalization is in the interest of the region to bring significant benefits, but without finding a pathway to peace for the Palestinian people and addressing that challenge, any normalization will have limited benefits”.
