WASHINGTON: Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken engaged in a discussion today with the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The conversation primarily delved into Blinken’s recent journey across the Middle East and the ongoing diplomatic initiatives in the region.

During the call, Secretary Blinken stressed the critical need for concerted efforts from all involved parties to prevent the escalation of conflicts in the region. A particular focus was placed on addressing the recent series of Houthi attacks targeting commercial vessels in the Red Sea. Both leaders acknowledged that these attacks pose an unacceptable threat to maritime security, emphasizing the shared international obligation to uphold established laws.

The dialogue also touched upon the significance of building upon the positive developments achieved in the recent Summit between President Biden and President Xi, which took place last month in Woodside, California. The call highlighted the importance of leveraging the progress made during the summit to strengthen bilateral relations between the United States and China.

As global concerns grow over regional security and stability, the Blinken-Wang Yi call serves as a testament to the ongoing diplomatic efforts to address shared challenges and promote cooperation between the two nations.
