ISLAMABAD/FLORIDA: Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been admitted to a hospital in Florida for abdominal pain, his wife said.
It comes a day after thousands of supporters of the far-right ex-president stormed government offices in Brasília, the capital of Brazil. He was taken to a hospital near Orlando on Monday, according to reports.
Ex-president has suffered occasional pain since being stabbed in 2018
Bolsonaro was stabbed in 2018 and has been struggling with occasional abdominal pain ever since.
His wife Michelle Bolsonaro confirmed on Instagram on Monday that her husband was under observation due to abdominal discomfort.
His condition was “not worrying”, Reuters quoted a source close to the family as saying.
Brazilian police used tear gas on Sunday to try to repel hundreds of Bolsonaro supporters after they stormed onto Congress compound one week after President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s inauguration.
Bolsonaro had left Brazil for the United States about 10 days ago and refused to participate in the handover of power to President Lula last week.
