NEW DELHI: A bomb blast occurred near the Israeli embassy in New Delhi, the capital city of India, on Tuesday evening, government authorities said. Officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) are currently on the blast scene, assessing the situation.

The distressing event unfolded on December 26, when Delhi Police received a call alerting them to a bomb blast near the Israeli mission.

The Israeli embassy confirmed the occurrence of a blast near the consulate building on Tuesday evening. The embassy’s spokesperson stated, “We can confirm that around 5:08 pm, there was a blast in close proximity to the embassy. The Delhi police and the security team are still investigating the situation.”

The blast was reported behind the embassy, situated in the Chanakyapuri area, a diplomatic neighborhood in the national capital. The call reporting the blast was made to the Delhi Fire Service at approximately 6 pm.

Israel’s foreign ministry said that all embassy staff remained unharmed following the incident. The Israeli authorities are actively cooperating with their Indian counterparts to investigate the cause of the explosion.

This unsettling event follows closely on the heels of a recent security scare in Mumbai, where the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) received a threatening email earlier in the day, underscoring the heightened state of security concerns in prominent locations in India.
