NEW DELHI, India: Several schools in Delhi and Noida have been evacuated following bomb threats received via email, prompting police officials to conduct thorough search operations.
Among the first schools to receive the threats early this morning were Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, Mother Mary School in Mayur Vihar, and Delhi Public School in Dwarka. Subsequently, five other schools also reported similar emails, all claiming the presence of explosives on their campuses.
The situation escalated at Mother Mary School, where an exam was underway. The examination had to be halted midway as search operations commenced. The school declared an emergency and instructed everyone to evacuate the premises immediately.
Delhi Public School sent out a notice to parents saying, “This is to inform you that the school has received an email that poses a threat to the students’ safety and security.” We are sending the students back home right now as a precaution.”
As a result, parents rushed to the schools to pick up their children, while bomb detection teams, bomb disposal squads, and officials from the Delhi Fire Service were deployed to the affected schools.
Despite extensive search efforts, nothing suspicious has been found yet. Delhi Police are actively working to trace the origin of the threatening emails, but as of now, the sender’s IP address remains elusive.
“This appears to be a hoax aimed at spreading panic, as emails have been sent to multiple schools on a large scale,” stated police officials. The cyber cell unit is also involved in efforts to trace the email and IP address.
This incident echoes a similar hoax in February when a threat at Delhi Police School in RK Puram was determined to be false.
