KARACHI: A 12-year-old boy was killed while three others sustained injuries in another clash between Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers in Karachi, local media reported on Friday, citing police sources. .

Police said a clash between workers of two parties in New Karachi Sector 11-J resulted in the death of a 12-year-old boy. Three others were injured in the shootout.

Police said activists of both the parties had a face-to-face encounter during the election campaign in the area. Supporters of both sides initially exchanged heated words before the altercation escalated into a fatal clash.

It is pertinent to mention here that this is the third reported clash between the parties as an MQM-P activist was also killed last Sunday in a similar incident in Karachi’s Nazimabad area.

On January 30, the MQM-P filed a First Information Report (FIR) against PPP candidates for the upcoming elections and others on charges of “killing” its worker during an encounter in Karachi’s Nazimabad area.

The MQM-P filed an application at the Gulbahar police station under the provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 on murder and terrorism. PPP candidates from NA-249 Rao Abdul Waheed, PS-124 Arif Qureshi and six others were nominated and 25 to 30 unidentified persons were also registered in the FIR.

On January 22, MQM-P and PPP registered cases of violence against each other in Karachi’s Hyderi area. Both sides blamed each other for the violence.
