CAIRO: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva held discussions with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo on Thursday, focusing on the ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestinians in Gaza.
During his second trip to Egypt and first during his current term, President Lula participated in talks aimed at addressing the dire situation in the Gaza Strip, which has endured over four months of devastating conflict.
President Lula is scheduled to deliver a speech at an upcoming Arab League meeting convened to discuss the crisis in Gaza, as confirmed by a statement from the office of the pan-Arab bloc’s secretary-general, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
Brazilian President Condemns Israeli Actions in Gaza
In previous remarks made in November, President Lula condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, equating them to “terrorism” due to the targeting of innocent women and children in the conflict with Palestinian resistance group.
Since October 7, Israel has launched a relentless bombardment campaign in Gaza killing thousands Palestinians, mostly women and children.
President Lula and President Sisi also discussed avenues for joint coordination in international forums, as highlighted by Egyptian presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy in a statement.
The timing of President Lula’s visit to Egypt holds significance as it coincides with the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Egypt, both of which are members of the BRICS grouping of major emerging economies.
