“There are a lot of fires and it’s all over, the fish and the bait are getting weaker and weaker,” says a fisherman on the Paraguay River, where fishing has become more difficult due to an atypical drought and fires that have ravaged the Pantanal wetlands in Brazil. In the first half of this year, satellites recorded more than 3,400 fires in the region, 33 percent more than in 2020. AFP
