BEIJING: Amidst the scorching summer heat, dozens of young poets from BRICS countries gathered at the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall in Beijing, China, demonstrating their shared passion for poetry.
The inaugural Special Session of the International Youth Poetry Festival for BRICS Countries is underway from July 19 to 24 in Hangzhou and Beijing.
Bringing together 49 poets from Brazil, Russia, India, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, and Ethiopia, alongside 23 Chinese poets, the event featured a visit to the Mutianyu Great Wall section where poets presented their original works in their native languages.

Shi Zhanjun, a member of the party group and secretary of the Secretariat of the China Writers Association (CWA), graced the festival with his presence and delivered an address, underscoring the historical significance of the Great Wall.
“This gathering marks the first time young poets from around the world have assembled here,” Shi remarked.
He highlighted the poets’ role in fostering cultural exchange and mutual learning through their youthful expressions, likening their efforts to building a lasting “Great Wall of Poetry.”
The festival, organized by the CWA, aims to nurture camaraderie through poetry and facilitate cultural dialogue among diverse youth communities.
