Budget 2024-25: Pakistan Govt Proposes Hefty Investment in Primary Education

ISLAMABAD: The government has announced to invest a hefty amount in the education sector to provide a healthy environment for the education of children.

Finance Minister in his Budget Speech on Wednesday said that to achieve provision of quality education to the youth, the government had taken numerous measures including improvement of infrastructure and facilities in 167 schools of Islamabad.

Similarly, the government has decided to start a ‘School Meal Programme’ under which a healthy diet would be given in 200 primary schools in Islamabad to improve the physical and mental growth of the students.

The government, highlighting the importance of digital literacy has planned to facilitate the schools with tablets, internet, Chromebooks, and smart screens, and also introduce digital interventions for learning. Furthermore, digital libraries would be set up to encourage culture education and research.

As many as 16 degree colleges in the federal capital would be transformed into result-oriented training institutes with the cooperation of well-known universities like NUST, COMSATS, NUML and NSU. These educational institutions would offer six-month courses to enhance employment opportunities for youth.

The government will also introduce an education voucher scheme for the students of the private sector to provide access to quality education to the needy and poor students.

Similarly, Early Childhood Education (ECE) Centers would be established in 100 schools to provide a strong foundation of education to small children.

The Finance Minister further said that total grants amounting to Rs1,777 billion have been allocated for the promotion of BISP, AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan, merged districts of KP, HEC, railways and IT sectors.

During the financial year 2024-25, it is proposed to allocate 59 percent of resources for the development of infrastructure development and  20 percent for the social sector development.
