KARACHI: Pakistani actress Bushra Ansari talked about the women who have suffered domestic violence and shared advice for every woman.

“Independent women should leave immediately if they experience physical abuse even once,” she advised. “If someone hurts you once, it’s likely to happen again.”

Bushra Ansari acknowledged that walking away was not always possible for women from a financially disadvantaged background. She further added that parents should prioritize their daughters’ safety. She criticized the parents who failed to save their daughters from an abusive marriage.

“The parents who make me angry are ones who let their daughters’ lives in abusive marriage,” Bushra said. “Why don’t you do something about it? If someone slapped your child, you wouldn’t tolerate it. Just because she is married doesn’t mean to tolerate abuse. An abusive marriage is just like a burning house with your child inside, you should help to get them out.”

The actress said that a woman’s lifelong companion is always fear, whether it is fear of a parent, a husband, or a teacher. She advised all women to fear only Allah. “A newly married woman may not  know this, but once she realizes it, she will slowly lose fear of her husband.”

Bushra emphasized that she is not advocating the unnecessary break up of a home, however, she stressed the importance of financial independence in a woman so they can make their own decisions and have control of their lives.

She further emphasized that “All women should learn a skill, whether it is cooking, sewing, or something online to make themselves financial independent,” Bushra emphasized. “When you can support yourself, you will feel secure and won’t have to worry about someone else providing for you.”
