WASHINGTON: The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a noted Muslim advocacy group has urged Biden administration to take decisive steps after a recent UN report that accuses Israel of repeatedly violating laws of war in its offensive against Palestinians in Gaza.

The report, presented to the UN’s Human Rights Council, details crimes against humanity and “extermination” campaigns carried out by Israeli forces in Gaza.

The report, conducted by the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, concluded that Israeli forces committed crimes against humanity in Gaza.

In a separate session of the UN Human Rights Council, Navi Pillay, a former South African judge and the head of a UN Commission of Inquiry, stated that Israel was responsible for “crimes against humanity” and that the extent of Palestinian civilian casualties amounted to “extermination.”

High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk emphasized the necessity of selecting means and methods of warfare that minimize civilian harm, noting that this principle appeared to have been consistently violated during Israel’s bombing campaign in Gaza.

Earlier in the week, CAIR pointed to an investigation by the Associated Press (AP) that revealed the far-right Israeli government’s attacks in Gaza had resulted in the destruction of “entire Palestinian families,” further underscoring Israel’s genocidal intentions. The AP report detailed more than 37,000 Palestinian deaths, with a majority being women and children.

“We are at a loss for words to describe the Biden administration’s hypocritical position on Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza,” Nihad Awad, CAIR’s National Executive Director, said in a statement.

“The mountain of evidence exposing the far-right Israeli government’s campaign of genocide, ethnic cleansing and forced starvation in Gaza must lead to concrete action on the part of the Biden administration, which is the primary enabler for this daily suffering and slaughter,” he said.

CAIR has also called upon the Biden administration to seek answers from Israel’s far-right government regarding specific incidents, including the death of Dr. Iyad Rantisi, who reportedly died under interrogation a week after being detained by Israeli intelligence services.

Moreover, CAIR condemned what it termed the latest “Israeli war crimes of the day” following reports from a UNICEF official who witnessed the execution of two Palestinian fishermen by Israeli forces.
