PESHAWAR: Speakers of a multilingual poetry event on Wednesday called for equal coverage and promotion to all local and regional languages under the United Nations Charter.

According to the speakers, all languages teach humanity and harmony and should be given equal attention. They also emphasized that regional and local languages should be conserved because they contribute to understanding the history of humankind in a particular location.

Renowned local poets performed at the event, organised by Pakhtunkhwa Radio FM 92.4, in Urdu, Pashto, Hindko, and other regional languages. Dr Shakir Orakzai, who spoke at the event, praised the initiative and noted that it was planned in conjunction with Mother Languages Day.

According to Syed Masoom Shah and Professor Dr Abaseen, children should be encouraged to learn local and regional languages because all languages need equal promotion and protection. Understanding one’s mother tongue, according to Dr Abaseen, “contributes to the growth of a country.”

Earlier, Dr Abaseen, Rahim Khan, Dr Shakir, Firoz Khan Saddiq, Muhammad Jan Atif, Syed Masoom Shah, Ikhtiar Ullah, Abaseen Mohmand, and Muhammad Sarwar Mehmood Khattak presented their poetry. APP
