Canada, Pakistan Explore Bilateral Relations, Economic Opportunities

ISLAMABAD: Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Leslie Scanlon, held a meeting with the Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, at the Parliament House to discuss various aspects of bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and mutual concerns, including the Middle East situation.

During the meeting, the Chairman Senate highlighted Pakistan’s deep appreciation for its relationship with Canada and its commitment to nurturing enduring and multifaceted bilateral ties. He emphasized the need to boost trade between the two nations and encouraged closer collaboration within the business communities. Strengthening the Pakistan-Canada partnership was seen as contingent on promoting bilateral cooperation across public, commercial, and parliamentary fields.

Investment Opportunities in Pakistan

Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani extended a warm welcome to Canadian businesses, particularly emphasizing investment opportunities in Balochistan, including Canadian company Barrick Gold’s investment in Chagai, which holds significant promise for job creation. The vital mineral resources in Balochistan were acknowledged as crucial to Pakistan’s economic growth, and Canadian firms were encouraged to explore further investments in Chagai.

Chairman Senate conveyed best wishes to the leadership and people of Canada while emphasizing the principles of justice and equality as fundamental to promoting global peace. He urged the international community to take effective measures to implement United Nations resolutions, particularly addressing Israeli actions in Gaza and the West Bank. Developed countries were called upon to play an active role in safeguarding human rights in Palestine and Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, adhering to UN resolutions for lasting solutions.

Sadiq Sanjrani underscored the importance of an UN-backed resolution for the Kashmir issue and effective strategies for human rights.

The Canadian High Commissioner concurred with these sentiments and stressed the urgency of resolving the Palestinian situation to bring justice to innocent Palestinians. Acknowledging Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war against terrorism, she endorsed the utilization of investment opportunities within Pakistan. The meeting also included the presence of Secretary Senate, Mohammad Qasim Samad Khan.
