NEW YORK: Pakistani pacers decimated Canada’s batting unit and restricted them to a modest total of 106 runs in the 22nd match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 here at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Tuesday.

Sent into bat first, Canada managed to score 106/7 despite Aaron Johnson’s half-century.

Pakistan drew first blood against the opponents as Mohammad Amir bowled Canadian opener Navneet Dhaliwal (4) out in the third over.

The Pakistani pacers picked up wickets quickly after the first dismissal, as Shaheen Shah Afridi, who could not take his first over wicket, made progress when Pragat Singh (2) was caught and bowled in the fifth over.

Haris Rauf conceded 13 runs without taking a wicket in the 7th over but Imad Wasim did the job for his team as he dismissed Nicholas Singh for only two runs in a run out.

Pakistan need to win today’s match and the next one — both of which are high-stake group clashes — to stay in the tournament, as they lost two of their opening matches.
