ISLAMABAD: Dr Gohar Ejaz, the Caretaker Minister for Commerce, Industry, and Investments, anticipates a substantial upswing in Pakistan’s exports, projecting an impressive $20 billion increase for the year 2024.
This positive projection follows dedicated efforts by the caretaker team to overcome challenges faced by Pakistani exports. In July 2023, exports experienced a setback, dropping to $2.068 billion. Responding promptly, the caretaker setup, assuming office in August 2023, focused on enhancing exports and addressing the trade deficit.
The tangible outcomes of these initiatives became evident by December 2023, witnessing exports surge to $2.812 billion—a notable increase of $511 million. The caretaker team’s strategic emphasis on boosting the export of manufactured goods played a pivotal role in this success.
Revitalizing exports was facilitated by ensuring ample energy supplies for industrial production, with a targeted approach toward markets in the USA and EU. Dr. Gohar’s optimistic forecast for a $20 billion increase in exports for the upcoming year reflects the positive momentum achieved.
Dr. Gohar Ejaz expressed confidence in this upward trajectory and reiterated his commitment to fostering sustained economic growth through robust export strategies.
