Caretaker PM Chairs Special Technology Zones Authority Meeting

ISLAMABAD: The fifth meeting of the Board of Governors of the Special Technology Zones Authority was convened in Islamabad, which was led by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar.

During the session, the Prime Minister emphasized the pivotal role the IT sector can play in Pakistan’s economic growth, highlighting the nation’s untapped potential in information technology.

In his directives, the Prime Minister stressed the need for comprehensive policies to attract IT experts globally, fostering the development and promotion of IT within Pakistan. He underlined the government’s commitment to encouraging foreign investment in the IT sector, citing positive progress in this regard.

Key decisions were ratified during the meeting, echoing the outcomes of the previous session. The restructuring of the Budget and Finance, Audit, and Technical Committees of the Board of Governors was approved, aimed at enhancing efficiency. Additionally, drafts of the Authority’s Licensing Framework, Authority Procedures, and Fee Regulations were greenlit for submission to the Technical Committee.

The meeting brought together federal secretaries, including those from Cabinet, Finance, Information Technology, Science and Technology, as well as chief secretaries from all four provinces, and other board members. The discussions centered on various issues pertinent to the Special Technology Zones Authority.

This gathering reflects the government’s commitment to harnessing technology for economic development, with a strategic focus on creating an environment conducive to both local and international IT initiatives. As Pakistan positions itself for technological advancement, these deliberations mark a significant step toward realizing its IT potential on the global stage.
