NEW YORK: Bob Lee, the founder of multibillion-dollar tech company Cash App, was found dead in San Francisco after he was targeted in an apparent stabbing attack.
Lee, who was currently employed in cryptocurrency and digital payments startup MobileCoin as the chief product officer, also worked as the chief technology officer of Square.
MobileCoin CEO Josh Goldbard also confirmed Lee’s death, stating that their dear friend and colleague, Bob Lee passed away at 43. He said a loving family and friends and colleagues survive Lee.
Goldbard told CNN that “Lee was dynamic and a force of nature and the genuine article. He was made for the world that was being born right now. Lee was a child of dreams, and whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made it happen.”
Bob’s father Rick Lee also confirmed the death of his son in a statement on Facebook, stating “he just lost his best friend. He said that his son “lost his life on the street in San Francisco early Tuesday.”
The father said Bob Lee would never look down on anyone and adhered to a strict no-judgment philosophy.
Rick Lee added that his son “would be missed by all those that knew him.” He thanked those who have reached out and offered support.
London Breed, the San Francisco mayor, also called Lee’s death “a horrible tragedy.” Breed said the police were still probing Lee’s death and would share more details soon.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, their officers responded to the report of a stabbing early Tuesday morning in the Rincon area, where they found “a 43-year-old adult male victim suffering from apparent stab wounds.”
“Officers offered aid and summoned medics to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital with fatal injuries. Despite efforts by first responders and medical staff, the victim succumbed to his injuries,” said the police statement.
