ISLAMABAD: As part of their training under the 51st Common Training Programme (CTP), a group of 20 probationary officers from the Civil Services Academy visited the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) for an interactive session in Islamabad.
Saeed Ahmad Nawaz, Member (Office of Fair Trade, MIU), CCP, led the session and discussed the proactive measures taken by the CCP, including the establishment of a Market Intelligence Unit (MIU), to effectively enforce the Competition Law.
Guided by Rehmat Wali Khan, Deputy Director and faculty in charge, the syndicate group, currently researching the “Implications of the Fifth Industrial Revolution (IR 5.0) on Public Sector Management in Pakistan,” actively engaged in the session, posing several questions.
Nawaz addressed their inquiries, emphasizing the significant challenges and opportunities associated with the emergence of the Fifth Industrial Revolution.
Additionally, the syndicate group benefited from a comprehensive presentation by Shahzad Hussain, DG (Advocacy)/Registrar of CCP. The presentation delved into the substantive provisions of Competition Law, covering topics such as Abuse of Dominance, Prohibited Agreements, Deceptive Marketing, and Mergers & Acquisitions.
It also traced the historical evolution of Competition Law, underlining its crucial role in fostering a competitive environment conducive to Pakistan’s economic progress.
Reflecting on the visit, syndicate group members expressed gratitude to the CCP for its warm hospitality and for providing valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities presented by IR 5.0. They found the engagement highly beneficial for their ongoing research.
