ISLAMABAD: Islamabad’s Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Tuesday reopened the Centaurus Mall after the Building Control Wing (BCW) of Capital Development Authority closed the shopping center due to nonconformity use.

According to media reports, the Capital Development Authority has decided to keep only a portion of the shopping mall close because it breaches Capital Development Authority regulations. Meanwhile, the rest of the Centaurus Mall has been reopened.

Traders of the federal capital have staged a protest demonstration in front of the Centaurus Mall, demanding of the government and concerned authorities to reopen the shopping center immediately.

Following the traders’ protest, Capital Development authorities decided to unseal the Centaurus Mall and reopen it for visitors.

CDA seal Centaurus Mall over violation

According to CDA officials, the Centaurus Mall was sealed after issuing six warnings to its management. The CDA officials argued that the management of the mall failed to remove illegal constructions despite several notices.

It is pertinent to mention the CDA served the first notice on 7 March 2014. The second notice was issued on 25 October 2019, and the third notice was issued on 29 December 2020. The fourth notice was issued to the Centaurus Mall management on 31 March 2021, whereas the fifth and sixth notices were issued on 11 October 2021 and 23 November 2022, respectively.
