WELLINGTON, New Zealand: New Zealand’s Chad Bowes has made headlines by breaking the world record for the fastest double century in List A cricket, achieving 200 runs off just 103 balls during a domestic one-day match for Canterbury against Otago in Christchurch. This remarkable feat surpasses the previous record of 114 balls set by Australian cricketer Travis Head in 2021.
Bowes’ explosive innings included an impressive tally of seven sixes and 27 fours, leading Canterbury to a formidable score of 343 runs for the loss of nine wickets. Despite struggling with back pain and dehydration throughout the match, Bowes managed to finish with a total of 205 runs off 110 balls.
Otago’s response was disappointing, as they were bowled out for a mere 103 runs, resulting in a staggering 240-run defeat—the largest margin in New Zealand’s domestic white-ball cricket history. Bowes, who has previously played for New Zealand in six ODIs and 11 T20 matches, could potentially earn a recall to the national squad following this remarkable performance. His last appearance for the national team was against Bangladesh in September 2023 .
