ISTANBUL: Manchester City have won their first-ever Champions League title after beating Inter Milan 1-0 to seal the treble, AFP reported on Saturday.

Rodri scored the goal, which made history for City in the 68th minute of the match, crowning an almost faultless season in which the club also won the FA Cup and Premier League.

After the historical victory, Man City manager Pep Guardiola said his club’s maiden Champions League title was “written in the stars”.

Rodri’s strike proved enough for the team to eventually get their hands on club football’s biggest cup, despite having to ride their luck as Inter Milan missed numerous second-half chances.

Pep Guardiola has now won the title three times after his last triumphs with Barcelona in 2009 and 2011. City’s win also clinched a treble after their FA Cup and Premier League successes in this season. “After the football World Cup the club made a step forward, and we were there,” Guardiola said.

The manager maintained that they were going to celebrate the win with family and friends. He added, “Monday, the parade is in Manchester. With this contest, the treble is so difficult.”
