ARMANAZ: Russian air strikes on the last major armed opposition stronghold in Syria killed five civilians from the same family, including three children, rescuers and a war monitor said on Tuesday.

Abdel Halim Shehab of the White Helmets voluntary search-and-rescue group said that on 25 December at 10:00 pm (0700 GMT), Russian war jets targeted civilian houses on the outskirts of the town of Armanaz in Idlib province, according to AFP news agency.

He said that the members of the White Helmets, which operates in rebel-held regions of northern Syria, pulled the victims from under the rubble of their houses.

Shehab further said that the victims were from the same family of 6; five of them were killed, and a minor survived. The child’s father, mother, and three siblings died.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Reports Same Toll

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor with a network of sources across the war-hit country, also said Moscow carried out the strikes.

The Britain-based organization reported the same toll of 5 dead and said the family’s house was located on farmland close to Armanaz.

On Tuesday, Syrian state media reported that the army had downed and destroyed eight terrorist drones in Aleppo and Idlib provinces.

Citing the defense ministry, it said troops responded to attempts to attack villages, towns, and military points.
