Children’s Delegation Calls on President Alvi

ISLAMABAD: On World Children’s Day, a group of young representatives from four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, met President Dr. Arif Alvi on Monday to discuss children’s issues and the rights of Children in Pakistan.

This delegation was nominated by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Sixteen-year-old Taqwa Ahmad, the Fund’s first-ever Youth Advocate in Pakistan, led the delegation.

During the meeting, the children shared their future aspirations and highlighted the challenges they currently face. President Alvi assured the delegation of Pakistan’s commitment to taking solid steps to ensure the well-being and rights of children.

He highlighted the current efforts to provide children with education, skills, and training, underscoring the importance of inclusive education for children with disabilities in regular schools to integrate them into society and equip them for future employment.

Responding to their questions from the children on topics such as climate change, girls’ education, and the challenges faced by children with disabilities, President Alvi expressed the need for a supportive environment for their development and growth. Afterward, the children went to a President’s hearing on a case involving the banks. —APP
