MUNICH, Germany: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of strengthening dialogue and cooperation between China and France during a meeting with French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne at the Munich Security Conference.
Wang underscored the historical significance of the two nations breaking the Cold War ice to establish diplomatic ties six decades ago, highlighting the positive momentum in bilateral relations. He expressed China’s willingness to maintain high-level exchanges, enhance parliamentary exchanges, and promote people-to-people exchanges, particularly through facilitating direct flights.
Wang also voiced support for France in hosting a successful Paris Olympics and called for deeper pragmatic cooperation across various sectors. He urged France to provide a favorable business environment for Chinese enterprises and to support each other’s multilateral initiatives. Sejourne affirmed France’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with China in trade, economy, tourism, climate change, and biodiversity protection.
France reiterated its adherence to the one-China policy, emphasized its strategic independence, and opposed decoupling and supply chain severance. The two sides also discussed various international and regional issues during the meeting.
The dialogue between China and France reflects their shared commitment to building a multipolar world characterized by peace, stability, equality, and order. Both nations recognize their global influence and aim to collaborate effectively to navigate the challenges posed by the resurgence of Cold War mentalities and the risk of bloc confrontation. As independent major countries, China and France acknowledge the importance of their partnership in shaping a more balanced and cooperative international order.
In celebrating the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations and the Year of Culture and Tourism, China and France view these milestones as opportunities to deepen mutual understanding and friendship between their peoples. The exchange of views on various international and regional issues demonstrates their shared interest in addressing global challenges through dialogue and cooperation.
