China Launches Campaign to Fight Alzheimer’s Disease

BEIJING: Chinese health authorities have started a nationwide campaign that will be run from 2023 to 2025 to promote the prevention and cure of Alzheimer’s disease.

According to a circular issued by the National Health Commission on Wednesday, efforts would be made to spread public awareness of the illness and guide the elderly population to pay full attention to their brain health.

Local health authorities are encouraged to carry out cognitive function screenings among elderly individuals to ensure early detection of the illness and prompt medical intervention, as well as enable more patients to receive appropriate treatment to reduce the incidence or slow the progression of the illness, according to the circular, Xinhua reported.

Technical Help for Alzheimer Patients’ Caregivers

The circular has also expressed the commitment to promote the accessibility of technical help to support those who take care of Alzheimer patients in order to alleviate their burden.
