Munich: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Sunday that China was mulling providing weapons to Russia in its war against Ukraine, warning it that any supplies would cause a serious issue.

Talking in the CBS’s show “Face the Nation”, Blinken said that our concern was based on information that Beijing is mulling to provide lethal support to Russia.

Asked what lethal support would include, Blinken said that everything from ammunition to the weapons.

Blinken’s statements on US TV

Blinken gave similar statements in a series of interviews with US television from Germany, where he attended the Munich Security Conference on Saturday and met with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.

A State Department official said that Blinken told Wang that if China provided material support to Russia or help with systemic sanctions evasion, it will face consequences, a State Department official said.

In an interview Sunday on ABC, he emphasized that President Joe Biden had warned his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in last March against providing weapons to Russia.

Since then, Beijing has been careful not to cross the limit, including by holding up on sending lethal weapons for use in the war, a source said.
