BEIJING: China stands ready to pool strength for international cooperation and friendship, and contribute more to world peace and prosperity, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a New Year reception held by the Chinese Foreign Ministry in Beijing.
Over 400 people attended the event, including envoys from different countries, representatives of global organizations in China, and members of Chinese government departments.
Addressing the reception, Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted China’s diplomatic achievements over the past year.
He said that China had remained committed to dialogue and cooperation, served as a staunch pillar in healthy interactions between major nations, and acted on the principles of sincerity, amity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness.
Citing the first China-Central Asia summit, the restored China-Australia ties, amicable China-ASEAN cooperation, and other major diplomatic achievements, he said China has proved to be a reliable partner in the joint construction of the Asian community.
The Global Security Initiative, and the twelve-point plan to end the Russia-Ukraine war, emphasizing that China has always been committed to promoting peace negotiations and is a key force in safeguarding world peace and stability.
China Steadfast Member of Global South
Wang said that China, a steadfast member of the Global South, had been pursuing progress for all. It supported developing nations to accelerate their modernization.
He noted that China would remain committed to cooperation and opening-up and make new contributions to global common development.
Wang said that the year 2024 is crucial for the advancement of Chinese modernization on all fronts. Building a community with a shared future for humanity is the noble goal Beijing is pursuing in its major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics for the new era.
