China Ready to Work with Stakeholders for UN Charter: PM Li

BEIJING: Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with the president of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Csaba Korosi, in Beijing on Friday.

As said by Chinese President Xi Jinping that China was committed to multilateralism and safeguarding the international system with the UN, Chinese Premier Li said that China was ready to work with all the stakeholders to uphold the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, international law, and the basic norms related to international relations.

Li further said that China will remain committed to the right track of economic globalization and a multi-polar world and play its role in safeguarding world peace and stability.

He explained that, as a founding and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China will, as always, actively assist and participate in the work of the UN, cooperation and strengthen coordination in different areas, including sustainable development, water resources, climate change and UN reform, and will address global challenges jointly.

The Chinese Premier said China was the defender and participant of the existing international order and the promoter and beneficiary of global openness.

He said, “No matter how the international landscape may change, my country will remain firmly committed to the purpose of peaceful development, adhere to the basic state policy of reform and openness, uphold humanity’s common values of peace, equity, development, justice, freedom and democracy,” Li added that China would develop itself through extensive international cooperation and exchanges, and provide new opportunities for the development of the world.

UNGA president on China Role

President UNGA Korosi said the United Nations hopes to deepen cooperation and friendship with China to address today’s political, economic, water resources, ecological and humanitarian crises, and achieve sustainable development and advance reform based on scientific decision-making mechanisms.

The UN appreciates China’s assistance for the work of the United Nations and hopes China will continue to play a better role in various areas, he added.
