BEIJING: China has released a list of the top ten archaeological findings of 2023, local media reported on Saturday. The discoveries span several provincial-level regions, including Fujian, Shandong, Hubei, Anhui, Henan, and Shaanxi.
An official of the National Cultural Heritage said the projects signify the pinnacle of archaeological triumphs from the last year.
Among the top new discoveries made in last year, various have clearly showed the development process and inter-civilizational exchanges throughout history of China.
These findings are not only main breakthroughs for China’s deep-sea archaeology, but important global archaeological discoveries.
Several of the archaeological findings that have been revealed are of implication to studies of China’s water system, ceramic, and ceremonial rites linked to architecture, experts said.
Take the 2023 finding of farmland irrigation structural ruins at the Qujialing relics spot in China’s Hubei Province as an example.
