BEIJING: In a major milestone for China’s space programme, the country’s first vertical high-altitude simulation test bed for liquid rocket engines successfully completed ground testing on Wednesday, marking it ready for operation.

The facility, developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), is expected to play a key role in advancing the development of next-generation engines for the Long March-10 liquid hydrogen rocket, which is expected to carry out ambitious manned lunar missions.

Equipped with state-of-the-art capabilities, the test rig boasts the ability to simulate high-altitude conditions for liquid engines with remarkable accuracy. It can replicate near-vacuum environments below the kilopascal level for long periods of thousands of seconds.

Engineers installed a digital simulation system on the test bench, which allows real-time system status checks and achieves the high reliability required by the development of more advanced engines.
