BEIJING: China emphasizes the United Nations (UN) vital role and responsibility in addressing the Palestinian issue, according to Cheng Xizhong, a distinguished professor at China’s Southwest University of Political Science and Law.

China stands in support of the UN Security Council convening an emergency meeting to address the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Following the outbreak of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, China, as a global power and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has been collaborating with the international community to tirelessly work toward achieving a ceasefire and ending the hostilities.

Since the conflict’s inception, China’s Foreign Minister and special envoy have maintained regular communication with their counterparts and senior diplomats from concerned nations to promote a ceasefire and cessation of hostilities while expressing the Chinese government’s position.

Cheng Xizhong underscores China’s opposition to actions that harm civilians and condemns any practices that violate international law. The utmost priority is ensuring the safety of civilians, establishing humanitarian corridors, and preventing a severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Creation of Independent Palestine State to Resolve Issue

The Chinese government has consistently emphasized that the Palestinian issue is at the core of the Middle East situation, rooted in the injustice faced by the Palestinian people. Justice, in this context, signifies the Palestinian people’s right to establish their own independent state, ensuring their existence and development. This fundamental human right must be fully respected and effectively safeguarded.

Cheng advocates that the resolution of the Palestinian issue depends on a swift resumption of genuine peace negotiations, allowing the Palestinian nation to realize their legitimate rights.

China calls for the prompt organization of an international peace conference with substantial authority and influence to facilitate broader international consensus based on the two-state solution and the formulation of a timetable and roadmap to this end.
