BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian expressed China’s grave concern regarding Israel’s recent attack on a school in Gaza that left over 100 Palestinians dead.

He said that China condemned all actions that harm civilians, opposes any violations of international humanitarian law, and calls on Israel to heed the international community’s demand to immediately cease hostilities. The international community must work together to alleviate and resolve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

In response to a question about the Peace Memorial Ceremony for the 79th Anniversary of the Atomic Bombing held in Nagasaki on August 9, Lin Jian commented on the absence of the US and other G7 ambassadors due to the exclusion of the Israeli ambassador.

Lin Jian confirmed that the Chinese Consulate-General in Nagasaki attended the ceremony and stated that China deeply sympathizes with the suffering caused by the atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II.

He said that these events occurred in a specific historical context involving Japanese militarism, which caused widespread devastation.

Lin Jian emphasized the importance of using history as a guide to prevent such tragedies from recurring. He also highlighted that China’s diplomatic and consular missions participate in relevant events based on their schedules, and this is consistent with China’s historical participation in such ceremonies.
