ISLAMABAD: China Foreign Minister Qin Gang in a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba has expressed concerns that war with Russia could spin out of control.

During a rare phone conversation on Thursday, he said that China wanted to see peace talks advance, according to a statement issued by the foreign ministry in Beijing.

He said that China always upheld a fair and objective stance on the Ukraine problem.

He further said that China is committed to promoting peace and advancing talks. It calls on the international community to create suitable conditions for peace negotiations.

Kuleba later took to Twitter, saying that he and Qin discussed the importance of the principle of territorial integrity and that he had highlighted the significance peace formula of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for ending Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Ten-point solution

Zelenskyy’s ten-point peace formula includes the restoration of territorial integrity of Ukraine, on which there will be no discussions, the withdrawal of all Russian forces, ending of all hostilities and the formation of a special tribunal to prosecute Russian war crimes, among others.

China’s rare engagement in the Russia-Ukraine war on Thursday follows Beijing’s recently-proposed twelve-point roadmap for a political solution of the Ukraine problem.
