BEIJING: China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi pointed to “historical injustice” against the Palestinian people as the root cause of the Israel-Gaza conflict and stressed the urgency of correcting these injustices to pave the way for a sustainable solution to the ongoing crisis.

During a meeting with the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, in Beijing, Wang Yi emphasized that the prolonged denial of Palestine’s right to establish an independent state, coupled with the unaddressed historical injustices experienced by the Palestinian people, has created an environment ripe for conflict. He highlighted the urgency of correcting these injustices to pave the way for a sustainable solution to the ongoing crisis.

“The root of this issue lies in the long delay in the realization of Palestine’s aspiration to establish an independent and sovereign state, and in the fact that the historical injustice suffered by the Palestinian people has not been corrected,” Wang stated, underscoring the significance of acknowledging and rectifying these historical wrongs.

China’s Longstanding Support for Palestinian Cause

China’s perspective on the conflict aligns with its longstanding support for the Palestinian cause and its calls for a peaceful resolution. The country has consistently advocated for the recognition of a Palestinian state and emphasized the importance of addressing the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people.
